Matthew Allred:

The work I call Heliography is an examination of the extended length of the photographic moment, as well as the aesthetic possibilities of primitive cameras and chemical processes. I wanted it to accumulate time, slowly, like a meditation on its own purpose. It's as if the image has somehow become untethered from reality, or perhaps the scene appears alien because it lacks the ubiquitous movement of people. Regardless, I sense my own insignificance and a visceral dejection when confronted by the grander patterning of the heavens and the idea that time itself will die with its last witness. My hope is that the images this process produces begin to reveal the ancient connection and adoration man once held for the sky and seasons.

Adam Bateman:

My new paintings explore the marks made by farmers when working a field.  The marks on the paintings are limited to the types of marks a farmer makes when irrigating, plowing, planting, harvesting, etc.   Like much of my earlier work, they combine visual rhetoric from landscape and from Modernist form.

I’m also conscious of color use in contemporary culture.  I draw my color from what I see in art and fashion and in the world.  This is a pretty straightforward mash-up of the marks made by farmers and contemporary painting.  I set out to see if I could make abstract (landscape) paintings that I like.  I think I’m getting closer.

C. N. Chandler:

Ogden artist, Collin Noortmann Chandler, though a Utah native, has lived elsewhere and in other roles.  At forty-three he had a notion, "I think I want to paint".   Unsatisfied with a single focus and brand, he now paints under three signatures based on his name and initials, and each has garnered attention and awards.

The work in this show comes from the “C. N. Chandler” persona, which is typified by contemporary, representational industrial still-life or landscape, but almost always with metaphoric or anthropomorphized subtext.  For instance, the gates and locks of the “Locked” series speak to societal fragmentation and access, while the characters of the “Peacocks” speak to identity and lifecycle.

Lee Roy Jennings:

I’ve spent a lifetime learning how to paint light as it plays on our mountains, on the surface and bottom of a stream, on a person’s face or objects on a table. Painting has been a very good way for me to closely examine beauty and portray it with my art

Amanda Moore:

Amanda Moore is an artist, photographer and Professor of Art at Westminster College currently living in Holladay, Utah. "When people think of Utah, our beautiful natural landscapes come to mind, very few people understand how fortunate we are as a community to have such amazing architecturally designed cutting edge homes over 50 years old. As a founding member of Salt Lake Modern in 2009, a subset of the Utah Heritage Foundation, I have gained access to some of the most prestigious and well preserved Mid-Century Modern homes in the Salt Lake Valley.  I hope through my art I can help educate the public on these treasures and encourage their preservation."

Justin Wheatley:

I grew up next to the Great Salt Lake and it was a big part of shaping who I am, what I believe, and how I understand the world. This painting is an interpretation of my relationship with the many layers of the lake and its surrounding environment.  He explores the different sides of our region, where people are welcomed and also where they are asked to keep out. Wheatley uses photos, acrylic paint, and collage to create these works.

Stephen Wolochowicz:

With my work, I am making a commentary to our connectedness to a greater whole. Some parts evoke positive responses while others may not. However, they are all linked. Through viewer’s interaction with my ‘Parts’ I am attaching a human component to our industrialized system, or world. By this, I am suggesting we are linked to the unseen, unknown systems and aspects of our entire industrialized economy, regardless of our awareness.
